The Cognitive Bridge: Pedagogy, Cognition, and Artificial Intelligence is a professional learning program designed to help educators navigate the rapidly changing cognitive landscape created by generative AI. Rather than treating AI as a shortcut to faster answers or polished products, the course reframes AI as a thinking partner—one that can scaffold student reasoning, strengthen metacognition, and deepen critical and creative engagement. Across a sequence of learning strands, participants explore how AI is reshaping the relationship between knowledge, thinking, and assessment, and develop practical classroom strategies that preserve intellectual rigor and student agency. The New Cognitive Landscape examines key cognitive shifts, including the product–process divide, Bloom’s Taxonomy in the AI era, cognitive offloading versus scaffolding, and why AI can feel unclear in educational practice. Boosting Critical Thinking & Analysis focuses on using AI to increase student thinking through tools such as the Socratic chatbot, multi-perspective analysis, the Hallucination Hunt, and moving from output to judgement. Enhancing Metacognition & Self-Regulated Learning positions AI as a support for executive functioning, reflection, and self-monitoring, including AI as a thinking mirror and reflective journaling. Fostering Creative & Integrative Thinking emphasizes idea sparking, interdisciplinary synthesis, and iterative prototyping while keeping human judgement central. To support real-world transfer, the program includes a full bibliography and a large set of subject-specific lesson transformations showing how the framework applies across History, Science, English, Math, Geography, Social Sciences, Visual Arts, Music, Philosophy, Phys Ed & Health, and Drama & Theatre.
